While the mystery itself is pretty straight forward with it twists and turns, the parallel contemporary story that works along with it —the foot noted part — gives more interesting twists that kept me intrigued and the pages turning. I would agree with that, but with the qualification that Somoza’s book is a lot less demanding of the reader’s work.

I love it when that happens, because everything is a surprise and there can be no prejudice at all. I generally tend to dislike writers who pretend that we know enough about an era to be able to write about its every-day life realistically.

Jan 06, Dan rated it liked it Recommends it for: A well thought out book but I’m not too sure it works. The manuscript being translated is the exciting story of a young man named Tramachus, a student at Plato’s Academy, who is suspiciously killed.
