Jul 11, John Hathaway rated it it was amazing. Szarrkowski are no discussion topics on this book yet. I think this is the 5th time I have read this cover to cover, and each time i discover something new and insightful. It is a book to savor slowly, taking in Szarkowski’s essays and viewing the photographs individually as well as a collection.

This book has a wonderful selection of iconic photos and information about them. Sarki rated it it was amazing Recommends it for: Though they vary in subject and date, lookint together the prints present a remarkable and consistent vision.

Looking at these photos, one seems more predisposed at first to search for reference, connection, and to fix it somehow in the flow of the history of photography. This is the best book for learning to appreciate photography, both as an art and as a cultural force.
