Jul 02, Mobin Shakeri rated it it was amazing. Lists with This Book. Jackson is a graduate text and may be a stress for undergrads. Erroneous passages have been corrected. For an example, one of the later chapters in the book gives a brief introduction to the theory of special relativity. For more advanced material you’ll need Jackson, but Griffiths smooths the way tremendously. The book features a friendly, informal style. If that’s not the case then it won’t be electrostatic but “this configuration has minimum energy which makes the system more stable and that’s why charges tend to reside on surface if they can!

Its lean and focused approach employs numerous new examples and problems. It is in fact almost unnecessary to take a class to learn the material if you have this book and enough motivation.

Sign In We’re sorry! While students need to be quite comfortable with calculus to deal flectrodynamics the notation, the electodynamics are elementary Other than getting used to full vector notation in calculus, there is really no reason to teach from any other electrodynamics book at the undergraduate level.

It will start you out with just static electric fields, then into magnetic fields and then how they work together dynamically. The new section fully explores the actual mechanism in cases where magnetic forces are actually working.

I’m just starting his Quantum Mechanics book and long for the day after when I can crack open that Elementary Particles book. If You’re an Educator Download instructor resources Additional order info.

I love this book. Nov 29, Nevena rated it it was amazing. Griffiths strikes a really accessible balance between explaining concepts thoroughly and keeping the subject matter moving.

Refresh and try again. The best part about this for me was the chapter on Vector Analysis which most book fails at since vector is core to understanding Electrodynamics and this book devotes an entire chapter for learning vectors. All figures have been reviewed for accuracy and updated where necessary.

Aug 31, DJ rated it it was amazing Recommends it for: Goodreads helps you keep track of books you want to read. This was a big mistake. It shows how the laws of electromagnetic waves and radiation are related to Maxwell’s equations – I really wished I was following the math at that point!

Potentials and Fields David Griffiths, I salute you sir. The chapter beautifully explains the concept in a way and that other books centered on STR cannot.

Other than getting used to full vector notation in calculus, there is really no reason electrodymamics teach from any other electrodynamics book at the undergraduate level. I bought the International edition of this book and I am happy with the Quality of the pages and book. Much of the math is overly-shortcutted for my tastes, but that is why the book is so thin.

This is a great introductory text to the study of electromagnetics. Feb 23, Muhammad Mossad rated it really liked it Shelves: Features a more extensive coverage of radiation theory than most texts at this level.

Still the explanations are clear and the main points are indicated in electrodynamkcs a way that you cannot miss them. Griffith discusses experiment, history, and theory alongside one another.

Overall, I would recommend this book even if it’s not chosen as the textbook for your class. Yeah, those are a mouthful. Feb 07, Bibi Francis rated it it was amazing.

The order bh which he presents the topics is perfect; each new topic builds on the previous topics. Jan 25, Silvio Curtis rated it really liked it. It addresses subtle points on many occasions. I own both the 3rd and 4th editions of this book and pretty much the only difference is a few tweaks in the text explanations and some of the problems were changed, though most are exactly the same.

The one book which might give a tough competition to this book is Electricity and Ot by purcell. Bt by David J.
