I’m quite infatuated with Lovecraft, so my love for ‘Whisperer in Darkness’ goes without saying. But then again, we almost have the best till last with Lin Carter’s work!

While this lengthy excursion may grate on the nerves of those lusting for more stories about He Who Is Not To Be Named, it must be said that Ramsey Campbell’s Yuggoth tale is one of the finest of any Mythos stories I’ve read.

Price’s introductions to the individual stories are informative and straightforwardly factual, though in his introduction to the volume as a whole he offers much food for thought on how all these links in the chain might relate to one another and the broader context in which they were written. It’s less than two pages and an easy read. Inhis grandfather died and the family suffered severe financial difficulties, which forced him and his mother to move out of their Victorian home.
