I also felt that it was improbable that a year-old boy would show the depth of experience and ability to become this instant fierce warrior that the author portrays. Give the book the liberty of a being a novel and it is a very good read It tells the story of Babur, how at the age of 12 he becomes the king of his father’s little kingdom, how he wins and then looses Samarkand – thrice; becomes the ruler of Kabul, grows restless A good read and historically correct, but this is not a history textbook and some of the important characters are fictitious.

Well after reading this you will start respecting the founder of hte era. It dealt with a subject matter that you think could be rich for a historical novel. He goes on to succeed his father as the ruler of Ferghana and then sets his eyes on the ultimate prize the city of Samakhand of Timur the Lame and goes about to claim them. As for rating it, I can only give it 2 stars and attach this ‘view’ to it.

A tye read for anybody interested in reading about Mughal History… I rate it very good. Young Frrom is determined to live up to the example of his great ancestor, Tamburlaine РTimur the Warrior Рwhose conquests transformed the face of the earth from Delhi to the Mediterranean, from wealthy Persia to the wildernesses along the Volga. From being king of a small state to the ruler of Samarkhand, to being a king without mothul throne, Babur is thrown into situations which provide him valuable life lessons, all of which would help him establish the Mughal dynasty in Hindustan.

On the whole, though, this book is a real achievement, and I am very glad that Ancient and Medieval Historical Fiction picked it as a group read.

The second volume tells the story of HumayunBabur’s son and the second ruler of the Moghul Empire.

With many enemies, he had no one to trust, with his own milk-mother and brother planning to plot against him. But this is the final flowering of a doomed empire and, while Shah Jahan mourns his dead wife and obsesses over raivers Taj Mahal, her monument, his son Aurangzeb is planning to take his father’s throne, by any means necessary. The author admits to making the device of a few characters, and with matters that happened five hundred years ago, I do not fault thee.

Before Babur can summon enough warlords to declare him the rightful king, plots against his crown, even his life, are hatching. The sixth volume covers the reign of Aurangzeb. I was not comfortable with it.

This is the first of a multi part series. The authors Alex Rutherford is Conn Iggulden introduced me to historical novels – biographies of great personalities told as a story.

The ffom is as compelling as the events described and kept me eagerly leaping from one page to the next – Wilbur Smith. The best hakims in the court are not able to find whats wrong with the young prince. It included quite a few details, but since my only other Historical Fiction reading has been that of James Michener’s, I ended up comparing, only for the sake of understanding which writer do I thf enjoy more.

It is here that Alex Rutherford scores again for he does his job really well.

Raiders from the North

This article consists almost entirely of a plot summary. I read the lot at one go, one after the other, without pause. The action A nice read, but became bored by the time it was over. The notes state that he has traveled to most of the places mentioned in the book. Babur feels a raiers sense of destiny and is convinced that fate has something special in store for him.

I must say that the husband-wife duo writing under the pen name of Alex Rutherford have got me hooked.
