There is maybe something that is lost in translation as I cannot read Germanbut I guess this would not have been a classic if this is no longer read by the current generations in Germany so there must be something lovable about the whole thing.

Well, that’s the way I would like to put all of these but I guess it may not be different to everyone as certainly I may not be aware of the background of those little encounters with different secondary characters.

A very unlikeable main character, in my opinion, who has all the luck in the world and even gets his happy ending. And that is a happy ending that I have no power to question. Eichendorff’s poems were set to music by the leading composers of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, including Mendelssohn, Schumann, Brahms, Wolf, and Richard Strauss.
It might not have had the deepest plot or the biggest message but it was easy to read and understand unlike many other classics. Suppose you could say, he can serve as a good example of how not to become on your way to personal freedom of mind and deed. I read this because it is a classic example of Romanticism literature and comes in at only pages. The Good-for-Nothing’s It’s a good thing it’s spring, because I feel I’d dismiss Eichendorff’s adventure as “bunk” and “humbug” in any other season.
