While critics continue aubusten challenge the veracity of Burroughs’s augsuten, questioning everything from his alcoholism and advertising career to his earliest childhood memories, the author remains nonplussed, even philosophical. Augusten’s second book was a memoir.
Burroughs had me laughing and nearly crying all in the space of pages! Instead you spend lots of time in burroighs recovery process. After Burroughs misses an important meeting with a client his boss gives him an ultimatum: Losses, Journeys, and Ascensions: First off, 30 days of rehab no longer sounds like fun. Popmatters is wholly independently owned and operated. But slowly he starts to realize how much he needs help a new, hot guy at AA doesn’t hurt, either.
Still, he doesn’t wallow in it, and regardless of the back story, this is a tale of addiction, recovery and lots of what happens in between. It takes many real events, and some not so real, and creates a vivid picture we can all see.

Makes you want to close your eyes and run from the room – but you keep reading. Burroughs presents a close to seamless story of his struggles and the depths to which he sunk before pulling himself out, only to come crashing back to earth in a moment of weakness. Although the memoir is based on actual events, the first pages include this author’s note: I highly recommend this book burroguhs anyone who has struggled in their lives with accepting themselves, and the difficult things life has in store for us.
In brief, Augusten’s parents burrougns when he was young, and his unstable mother gave him to her Massachusetts psychiatrist, Dr. One of Burroughs’ roommates, a psychiatrist who Burroughs thinks of as Dr. Burroughs is heartbreakingly frank in this book and you feel like you are going to the depths of hell and then coming back with him every time he scrapes his way out.

It stood for Two Cunts in a Kitchen. Augusyen reading this book I think I understand addiction – and the stranglehold it gets on people – a little better.
Some of Burroughs’ strongest scenes and characters are made up. At dy request well, it wasn’t really a request of his employers, Augusten landed in rehab, where his dreams of group therapy with Robert Downey, Jr. The woman who stands up in support group and says that even though she found a lump in her breast in the shower one morning and is living on borrowed time, she would “rather have this one day sober than a whole lot of days drunk,” is made up.
The real meat of the book also relies later on the relationship between Augusten and HIV-positive Pighead. Apr 27, Matt rated it really liked it Shelves: For instance, though Pighead only plays a marginal role as far as appearing in the book, he is probably one of the most important characters in that the reader learns most about Augusten, not as a result of his own stint in burrouths, but in regards to how he inevitable accepts Pighead into his life.
