franxisquita All is resolved after a series of misunderstandings and machinations involving Cardona disguising himself as a woman; Aurora’s lover, Lorenzo Perez, challenging Fernando to a duel; and rumours that Fernando plans to marry Francisquita’s mother to the subsequent horror of Don Mathias. A frandisquita complication to this shifting imbroglio is introduced when Francisquita’s mother is led to believe that Fernando is after her rather than her daughter.


Beyond a couple of extended arias and a wedding chorus, the music is less complex and extensive than that of a Rodgers and Hammerstein show. Francisquita is in love with francisuita and would-be poet, Fernando.

The brief Preludio paints a vivid picture of the lively street scene. The voice of the night watchman is heard once more, and Cardona begs Aurora to sing. She tells him to get lost, and takes out her fury on the hapless Lorenzo.
