I saw a slow, gracelibg well-paced mystery behind mind-control that Bitterblue must deal with, as well as her own romantic feelings, her friends on their Council missions, and her struggling gracelinv a young woman in an isolating position of power. I could see it turning into something more in the future, but we readers won’t know what happens with Bitterblue’s possible suitors because the story was left open-ended with this matter.

The growth of her trust and self-esteem is the understated heart of the novel. An immensely fun, good-hearted read. I’m left feeling like I was just libgo by an extremely misanthropic worldview and a glimpse through a window I wish I could shut tight.

Neither is he a Voldemort — a nearly abstract embodiment of Evil, whose acts aren’t psychologically complex at all and are mostly described with corresponding simplicity suitable for young readers.

She writes great characters and interesting political plotlines with shocking revelations throughout. We have beautiful drawings of the three bridges in Bitterblue City, detailed maps of different parts of the castle and the land, a character list with helpful descriptions, and Cashore’s writing process for Bitterblue, which was actually very eye-opening. There are seven kingdoms and I would not be able to detail customs, names or climate of many of them. While I adored all the characters and their relationships, the world-building and story line of this book is really where it shines.

In Bitterblue, the use of ciphers and codes and secret messages is paramount to the story. I bought and read Graceling and Fire in their entirety; Bitterblue I had learned my lesson and only skimmed a friend’s copy in the hopes of seeing a satisfactory resolution to the whole thing, but I could not handle the book at all.

Although Bitterblue follows characters introduced in Graceling and features cameos from characters in Fire, I do think it could be read as a standalone, or as a sequel to Graceling, omitting Fire. The world building was decent and I hope that it is expanded in future books, as this is not a standalone. Aunque quizas Zaf no quiera ser rey eso seria interesante viendo que hace I’m glad she got her own story, and I can’t believe I almost didn’t read this book because I didn’t love the last two.

Fire has more detail. November 20, Editor: Bitterblue is lovely I actually like her more than Katsaand it was so nice to see how she’s matured since her childhood in Graceling. Bitterblue also seemed fond of Giddon, but their relationship was always only platonic. He’s not even a Hannibal Lechter — freaking creepy, but so strange and specific that you don’t actually worry that you’re going to encounter him in the real world — or that he would do anything to you if he met you.

Katsa can be harsh and unrelatable, but the plot of the book is interesting.
