I did see the story as an approach bhxgwati show the power of beauty,attraction and love too, how it influences our human minds and how we tend to get manipulated running after those bhagsati.
In my opinion book is a must read. Veer Balak Hindi Stories. They ultimately conclude that humans become victims and slaves of circumstance. Previously, the same director has made Chitralekha was also based on the same novel  . So, according to Ratnambar -there is no sin and virtue per se. This is what the protagonist of the novel believes in. At the time of this conversation, Chitralekha is in the arms of the general who loves her alot.
