So much of the first half of the book dealt rwrdin Cassandra’s demon problems that I forgot what their original mission was.
But Vayl never saw her in that way – because he’s just the same. I love vampire novels with new ideas and a fresh flavor, and those can be hard to find these days since the genre has been done, redone and even overdone.

The Jaz Parks series by Jennifer Rardin definitely has all that and so much more. The job should have rardi just another notch in their belts, but when Cassandra’s Demon comes out to play things get a little hairy as she is one heck of a force to be reckoned with.
Something I have loved about this series is that while it is full of action and high stakes, there also is plenty of humor and witty comments from the characters. It’s a little rrardin. He is becoming a lot less ‘wimpy’ I suppose is one way to put it. Get to Know Us. I think I laughed most when Bergman’s new toy for Jaz, Astral, the robokitty gets repaired and starts belting out random musical peices. The series is layered, plots and characters intertwined, and while each book has it’s own arc, none can be fully appreciated as a stand-alone.
Vayl suffered from the loss of his two boys and is now trying to move past his loss and work towards his future with Jasmine.
Not because the books are perfect on their own – they’re not. I suppose it’s the handful of moments toward the end of each that show what Rardin is capable of accomplishing. Vayl is a nearly three hundred year old vampire and while he’s the country’s top assassin – holding that position for the past eighty-some odd years, he’s got his own bitf.
After all of the major movements in the last book, this was what I call a turnaround book. I enjoyed the book a lot and look forward to the next book in the series. She sure has one heck of “personality” that will leave you in tears from laughing so hard. I’ve had to force myself to get halfway through this book, and it’s taken weeks! I love the vamps, witches, and all the paranormal creatures but aliens and mutant larvae are close to the edge for me.
I thought all that crap with him chasing Jaz was over with in the last book but no, he’s still trying to win her away from Vayl. There are some great touches – Astral the robokitty, who goes from mild mannered kitty to slightly creepy talking and dancing kitty after Jack jenjifer takes her head off. This book is anything but serious. I’ve been a fan of the series since the beginning; it’s absolutely one of my favorite series in the genre.

Between Cassandra’s curse, Jaz’s literally mental personal demons, and a host of angry gnomes, this mission is definitely going to be more complicated than any that have come before. Cole is breezy and amusing, but I don’t know how he doesn’t get killed amid all the wisecracks. Industrial-sized and hefty weight baggage in the shape of two sons lost centuries ago.
A good romantic interest, a hot and steamy scene here or there, maybe even some drama and turmoil to keep it spicy.
It will really make you rethink your feelings about gnomes! Like all the Jaz books, it was filled with great action and twists. I plan to read another of her series soon.
