A feminist before the times. Worrying that this book would be burdened with the same lackluster? If I have already, well They’re the people who go down in history.
Ember is introduced to a world that she never imagined existed.
I mean I loved Ren from nightshade and look what that got me. Her infatutaion with Barrow was immediate, I would have liked her to have had more interactions with him before becoming so attached.
Cian and Eira are the sisters who started it all. She works hard, suffers injuries, and her determination only makes her more admirable and relatable.
Luke Skywalker got zapped a few times before connecting with the force. Oh man, what a guy he was! And boy, does she wish she was a boy. I shall let the author slide. Together they battle the evil that is leashed upon the world. This book rocked my socks off! The characters are a bit less compelling in this book. Yet, Ember Morrow’s blood runs with bravery and she is willing to face demons and death while walking the path of the warrior.

I have mixed feeling about this book by overall it was okay. The efficient writing leads the reader to a wonderful world of amazing elements. The mythology, magic and breathtaking landscapes are just the tip of the iceberg of the wondrous world Cremer’s created.

As a historical fantasy novel, it’s nice to have the time afforded to building the world, and it’s not done at the expense of character drama and interest.
